Romeo the Network Marketing Cat

After 14 failed attempts at M-L-M, spending thousands of dollars for guru “secrets”, Sarah Thompson was pretty discouraged.

In late 2007, she ran into “Success in 10 Steps” by Michael Dlouhy. She looked at the table of contents and thought, “Huh? Where is step 1, step 2, and all the other steps?” The chapters had titles like “Your warm market has ice in their veins,” and “Give your prospects a puppy”.

“Oh, right!” she thought. “This is REALLY going to help.  NOT!”

A few days later, the phone rang. It was the author of the book, Michael Dlouhy. Sarah figured that somehow he must know she had a few dollars left on her credit card.

But Michael never tried to close her. Eventually, she read the eb00k, and it made sense. Sarah now has gone from diamond in the rough to a Diamond in her company. Read her story here:

Dear Abbey has been around for years and I still love reading her column of good common sense.  Here is one of her more recent responses to a mother who has a daughter in the direct sales industry.

To me, the mother is more worried about how others will perceive her, instead of being proud and supportive of her daughter and her independent entrepreneurial spirit.  What’s your impression?

Mom Balks At Daughter’s Plan To Host A Direct-Sale Party (Dear Abby)

DEAR ABBY: My daughter, “Amelia,” recently joined the ranks of a “direct sales force.” She has asked me to make arrangements so she can present her products to my circle of friends. I love Amelia beyond words and would do anything to support her, but I told her that in this instance I felt I would be betraying my friends by “using” their friendship.

In my opinion, hosting a “party” for the purpose of selling makes the invitees feel obligated to buy something whether they need it or not. I told Amelia I don’t want to put my friends in that position. My daughter took immediate offense and told me I was way off-base because attendees are “free to purchase products — or not — as they choose.” In other words, I’m the one with the hang-up and it isn’t necessarily shared by others.

It upsets me terribly that my daughter is now angry and thinks I have abandoned her because I’m uncomfortable supporting this effort. She has another successful career, so this venture is not a matter of financial life or death to her. What should I do? — IN A TOUGH SPOT IN ILLINOIS

DEAR IN A SPOT: Direct sales companies are rapidly expanding their forces these days, in light of the recession. And many people regard it as an attractive opportunity to replace lost income or hedge against job loss. According to USA Today, there are now roughly 15 million direct sellers in the United States.

With all that “partying” going on — the objective of which is to sell, sell, sell — many people have wised up to the fact they are promotional rather than social in nature and refuse the invitations. I see nothing wrong with inviting your friends, as long as they understand, in advance, the purpose of the party as well as the fact that you won’t be personally offended if they do not choose to participate.

In building a stable, profitable mlm organization, you must

1. have a tested and proven lead generation training system for your team to use immediately
2. Expand your ability to coach your team to success with your system

The key element that can coach your team to success is you. You must know and understand your own WHY and focus on it every day. You should know exactly what motivates you or how will you will ever be able to find what motivates them?   If they don’t get their WHY hammered out in the beginning, they will sooner or later abandon their business.   They won’t be able to  keep their commitment, if they don’t understand why they are doing their daily work.

Reread the first chapter of Success in 10 Steps, if you are even the slightest  unclear about your WHY. You find at least 20 questions in that section to help you identify your motivation.

Not to mention … You will be much happier and better equipped to help others and lead them to their WHY, which will help you all achieve the desired objectives.  That’s what a Coach needs in order to be great.

Everyday it seems I have people asking me why      I mentor people for free.

First of all I understand their skepticism.  It’s normal and it’s healthy.  But really, its a shame that people are so skeptical and cynical that they can not seem to understand how someone would help them out with no strings attached.

Do you think that maybe they are thinking that way because they wouldn’t extend themselves to help someone for nothing?  Hmmm

You’ve been in network marketing for how long now?  What kind of time and money have you lost, trying to figure it out on your own?  Have you ever prayed in the middle of the night asking for someone to help.  Ask yourself, what would you do to help someone avoid the problems that you went through.  Wouldn’t you want to warn others of hazards ahead, or would you stand idley by and watch them get hurt?

One of the stories I tell people is this.

Let’s say your on a city street corner and you see a sweet, little old lady about to cross the street but you also see a huge bus speeding down the street.  Its obvious if you dont do something she will be struck down.  Do you ask her first for payment or do you just act and save her?

Well DUH!  You save her right.  Ok, now that you saved her life, do you ask her for payment?  Of course NOT!  What kind of person would do such an aweful thing?

Well that my dear friend is why I participate in the Mentoring for FREE program.  We are helping thousands of people globally and ya we do it for free because its the right thing to do.

Here is Michael’s reason.

I don’t know about you, but I sure would be angry enough to sue people or companies who are using my name and influence to peddle their stuff.  Well Oprah and Dr. Oz are to.   Just because a celebrity makes a reference to a certain fruit or food doesn’t mean they endorse it people!

Here is a little tidbit I picked up from a great site for MLM news and changes to our fabulous industry.

From the very knowledgeable Rod Cook’s site MLM Watchdog

Winfrey and Oz have filed law suits against 40 companies (some of them MLM) selling açaí or other  products, with their name endorsements on them. The lawsuit says companies are “fabricating quotes or falsely using Ms. Winfrey’s & Oz’s name about brands they never endorsed.”  They don’t endorse dozens of açaí berry products claiming their seal of approval so it is lawsuit time!

Dr. Oz said on Good Morning America, “Many Americans have seen images of me, and Oprah and others supporting, it would appear, products that actually don’t work in the ways that are described,” Oz said in an exclusive interview Thursday with ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “And more importantly, when consumers trusting us try to buy these products over the Web, what they end up getting are fake products, pills that don’t really have what’s promised in them. They’re often duped into paying more than they should. If my picture is next to a product, endorsing it and supporting your purchase of it, I did not give them permission.”

If you were Oprah or Dr. Oz what would you do?  Does your company or people in the company do things like that?  Would you call that ethical practice?  Would you consider that “good business”?  I know more than most of you wouldn’t , but please keep your eye open for those that would.  They are the ones that are giving our great industry such a bad name.  Watch out if they do.

Just something to think about folks.

tt0131202So you’ve found yourself a coach or a mentor that is doing what you want to do.  You want to be able to accomplish what they have.  Now what?  How can you make sure you get the best out of your experience?

You need to make sure that you are coachable.

What does this mean?

When a person is coachable, they do 2 things consistently.  They do what the coach tells them to do without questioning it.  And the second thing is even more important than the first.  They ask for FEEDBACK!

We’ve all heard the saying, “There is always room for improvement.”  I believe that to be true.   Sometimes it only takes a little tiny tweek to make a huge improvement to the play.  Perhaps by starting on the left foot instead of the right can give a player a fraction of a second that could change a plays outcome.

When we listen to our coach and do what they tell us, and then follow up with asking for feedback then we are truly coachable.

Are you coachable?

What does a salmon swimming upstream to spawn have in common with Socrates, the great Greek philosopher and network marketers?

They all have something or someone trying to hold them back from their greatest potential.

All three are going against a current that keeps trying to push them back.

The Salmon’s current is the water.  Socrates’ current was that he had other ideas and beliefs than his colleagues.  Network marketer’s current is going against the popular belief that everyone must have a J.O.B.

The Salmon, Socrates and network marketers all will push against this current and fight for their beliefs.  The desire to succeed is powerful.

How can you combat the strength of this type of peer pressure?

The remedy is simple.  Gather a group of like minded people to meet on a regular basis.   A mastermind group if you will.

Meet with them often, no less than twice a week.

You need to have constant and consistent contact and communication with people who have the same type of ideas that you have.  This is important.  You may feel that you can “handle” the constant barrage on your path to success, but believe me, a support group sure makes it easier.

Why not create one  of your own?  Facebook and Twitter are just two ways to do this.  The internet is a HUGE doorway to a support group just for you.  With a little effort you can easily surround yourself with one.

Give it a try!

P.S.  And you need to expand your network in order to grow your network marketing business anyway right?  Remember, build people, people will build your business!

I want to wish you ALL a Happy 4th of July.
The holiday is so significant even to a Canadian like myself!

To celebrate one’s Independence is HUGE and so many times we take that for granted. Do we really understand what our forefathers gave us? This holiday is not about breaking out a cold one to watch fireworks and lay back and a day off from work. Its about the Freedom and someone fought for us to have that now.

I find that network marketers such as ourselves are still striving, and fighting for that right to be free.
We understand TIME FREEDOM. We understand that when you have residual income, you are in control of your time and finances which in turn gives you the opportunity to help so many others accomplish the same. We do not trade time for a dollar. We understand that time is precious and should be spent with those we love and helping each other.

If you have been working at this more more than 6 months, then you are part of a newage revolution. Yes, it is a revolution. To educate people that a 9-5 is not the way of the future if you want to own your own life!
To have friends and family instilling doubt or treating us like we are completely nuts is a constant battle for most of us. Do you realize that it wasn’t all that long ago they could have us legally commited to an asylum?

Don’t let people steal your dream. Its not that far from becoming a reality. But you know that already or you wouldnt be doing it

So while your out there today, having a picnic with the kids and spouse, please say a Thank You to the 56 men who gave you this incredible selfless gift. Your Independence!

I look forward to helping, supporting and learning something from each and every one of you Freedom Fighters!

Sincerely Yours

Rich or poor, we each have challenges that face us each and everyday. Some people may have personal, some physical and sometimes financial challenges. We all have them. It’s what you do despite them that matters.

Leaders do not use any of these obstacles as an excuse. Much like lab rats working out a plan to get through a complicated maze, leaders will find another way around what is stopping them. In fact leaders will even welcome new problems because they know this is how they learn. We do not learn when things go to easily.

The difference between most people and successful leaders are quite distinct and they are skills that anyone can learn if they are determined enough.

Leaders look at a problem and their mind goes into solution finding mode. They don’t start complaining that this happened so this can’t happen, or this person did that so now I can’t to this, blah blah blah.

Whether a leader knows a solution or not, they seek experts that could help them find solutions or improve a solution. Feedback by others is necessary for them because leaders are constantly learning. Followers wait for someone to give them a solution. Sometimes no one shows up. Pity.

Build your self confidence. When you are confident, your perspective towards challenges will change. You will instead see problems as temporary lessons rather than something that is bigger than you are.

Give this little trick a go. By changing a word that you use regularly to a new one, you can start to change they way you see your world and the obstacles in it. Most people say something like, “I have a problem.” Why not start today by changing that word to something like, ” I have a challenge.”

It takes a while to change, but the little effort that you put in now, will pay off in spades later.

You can do this with other words as well.
What words can you change or rearrange in your everyday vocabulary that can help you to build your self confidence and that will help to unleash the leader that is dwelling inside you?

Have an awesome day folks

In order for you to build a stable, profitable network marketing business, you must be able to offer your prospects a tested, proven lead generation & training system and develop into a coach that can coach your team to victory in your system.

The most important element of being able to coach your recruits to victory is … you. You must have the same faith and belief and understand your WHY and focus on it daily.

You need to know exactly what motivates YOU.  If you don’t know for yourself, how will you ever be able to help your prospects figure out what motivates them?  And if they are not able to define their WHY, then sooner or later they’ll drift away .

They won’t be able to maintain their daily commitment if they can’t see exactly why they’re doing it.

Re-read Chapter 2 of Success In 10 Steps if you’re at all stumped over your WHY. You’ll find at least 20 questions in that chapter to help you narrow your focus to find your very solid WHY.

Remember, everything you learn for yourself, you will be able to help others do the same.  After all that is the name of the game… duplication.
